Nestled within 2,000 acres of forest and rolling hills, The Woodlands Hills features an award-winning lifestyle program with diverse activities for all. We recently spoke with Amanda Carlton, Lifestyle Coordinator for The Woodlands Hills Residential Community, the homeowners’ association. While you may not know her name, her familiar face is often seen at the Activity Center, organizing events, checking amenities, and engaging with residents. The lifestyle program at The Woodlands Hills is packed with activities designed to foster connections among residents and celebrate the great outdoors.

  1. Amanda, tell us a little about yourself and how you came to The Woodlands Hills.

I’ve been the Lifestyle Coordinator at The Woodlands Hills for a little more than a year and a half. Prior to this, I was a theater teacher for 13 years, with the last 10 years in Conroe ISD. When the position opened, I felt my event planning and teaching experience made me a great fit. I interviewed and landed the position, which I absolutely love.

  • Briefly describe your duties and explain the importance to the concept of the community.

As the Lifestyle Coordinator, I’m responsible for events and programming for the residents of The Woodlands Hills. Our team consists of an amazing assistant, Samantha, and three very dedicated part-time staff to produce a calendar full of fun and engaging experiences, so residents can get to know one another.

We have three large, community events –  a Spring Festival, our 4th of July celebration and Holiday in The Hills that all draw a crowd. We have several events such as Bottle Bingo, House Concerts, Concerts on the Lawn, Family Glow Night, Dinner and a Magic Show for 21 and up. Monthly Story Time, Movie on the Lawn and Flick-N- Floats, with vendors and food trucks add to an abundance of activities.

Our office also oversees renting the community facilities and a varied selection of community group activities, such as Book Club. We manage programming like baking and exercise classes, and we get instructors to host different classes like Kids in Kitchen Baking Camp.

We’re a tightly knit community that feels like a small town.

The Woodlands Hills Movie Night
  • How many events do you curate each year?

We currently put on close to 50 events, that’s an event a week for 1,200 residents!

  • What are you working on now?

We’ve just planned and executed our first teen night, which was a big hit with our middle school and high school youth. Coming up is Bottle Bingo, our Halloween themed event – The Haunted Hills complete with animatronics, and Movie on the Lawn.

  • What do you find the most challenging?

I want to create an experience that everyone will enjoy, ensuring there’s something for everyone. Our focus is on all age groups, making sure no one feels left out!

  • Are there any reactions from residents you’d like to share?

Our office hears quite frequently: “You’ve outdone yourself this time,” and “That’s the best one yet,” of a particular event. It lets me know we’re meeting and achieving goals!

  • What is something you’d want new residents to know?

This community is truly fantastic! Once you connect with your neighbors, you’ll love being here!

In addition to the residential activities and various community groups at The Woodlands Hills, Howard Hughes will be hosting our annual Harvest in The Hills—a free, family-friendly event for everyone to enjoy on Saturday, November 2, from 10 AM to 3 PM at The Woodlands Hills.
