Purchasing a new home is a very exciting moment. Not only are you getting the latest in construction and design, you have the advantage of the latest innovations in energy-saving features. New can mean green – a better home and better living.

New home construction requires little energy to make the home comfortable year-round. Less energy consumption can significantly reduce the overall cost of homeownership and maintenance. It also reduces our carbon footprint on the environment.

Some of the green initiatives endorsed by the featured homebuilders in The Woodlands Hills include:

  • Environments for Living® Certification:

This program is designed to assist builders in constructing energy-efficient homes using the principles of building science. A home that has the Environments for Living Certification meets a rigorous set of requirements for indoor environmental quality, interior water conservation and appliance efficiency.

  • EnergyStar Rated Appliances:

EnergyStar is the government-backed program to promote superior energy efficiency. Appliances that are EnergyStar certified help you save money on the operating cost of the product by reducing energy use without sacrificing performance, features, or comfort. EnergyStar rated appliances, such as dishwashers, refrigerators, washers and dryers, are built to meet strict energy efficiency criteria set by the US Environmental Protection Agency or US Department of Energy.

  • LED Lighting:

Many homeowners are making the switch to LED lighting throughout their home. Not only do LED lights last up to ten times longer than incandescent bulbs, but they are also better for the environment. LED bulbs are 80% more efficient than traditional lighting such as incandescent and fluorescent lights.  They use 70-90% less energy, which means over their lifespan, you could save $30 to $80 on your utilities per lightbulb.

  • Tankless Hot Water Heater:

A tankless water heater saves energy by only heating water as it is needed. Since the units are about the size of a suitcase, they save valuable space. Moreover, they don’t pose the risk of a damaging water leak since they don’t store large quantities of water in bulky storage tanks. The water you want is heated in seconds, therefore reducing water waste. Tankless water heaters also last up to twice as long as a standard water heater and on average are about 22% more efficient, saving hundreds of dollars annually.

The Woodlands Hills is all about healthy and wholesome new beginnings. We are a caring, neighborly community that promotes living in harmony with nature and earth. Welcome home!
