Two graduates from Willis High School, Paris Egbert and Alexander Hernandez, have been selected as recipients of prestigious college scholarships awarded by Howard Hughes.

This year, Howard Hughes awarded 23 scholarships to high school students and Lone Star College graduates, in its communities.

Howard Hughes has awarded over 500 scholarships since the 1980s through a decades-long educational funding initiative, recognizing outstanding achievement and supporting students’ continuing education. To date, 10 Willis High School graduates have received scholarships through this initiative—testament to the continued support for education within the community.

Alexander Hernandez was selected through the Willis ISD Endowment in recognition of his academic achievements and dedication to his studies. Alexander will attend the University of Texas, continuing his academic journey with the same dedication that earned him this recognition.

Paris Egbert earned her scholarship based on a combination of academic excellence, involvement in extracurricular activities, and a compelling essay submitted as part of the application process.

In her essay, Paris reflected on her journey of leadership and service throughout Montgomery County, beginning her involvement as a freshman at Willis High School. She wrote:

“Having success in these unique opportunities throughout high school and my community has motivated me to apply to the Howard Hughes Scholarship. I will be attending Baylor University in the fall to study finance on a Pre-Law track within the Honors College. Beyond this, I plan to attend law school and achieve my ultimate dream of being a lawyer and serving my community through the justice system.”

She concluded with a powerful message:

“… anything is achievable when you are dedicated to leadership and service to your community.”

Congratulations to both of these outstanding students! Howard Hughes proudly supports your educational aspirations and wishes you continued success in all your future endeavors.
