Mark your calendar to lace up your sneakers and step out for good health as National Walking Day 2018 is Wednesday, April 4.
The American Heart Association sponsors this day to remind people about the health benefits of taking at least a 30-minute walk each day.
Here are some tips to make that 30-minutes more enjoyable:
- Wear your sneakers (or bring them with you).
- Wear comfortable clothes.
- Find a good new trail.
- Take a friend to pass the time.
- Make sure to stretch your muscles.
- Drink plenty of water.
- Move your arms, too.
- Make sure you have good posture.
Hike and bike trails near your home or office offer a great opportunity to get your walk in while unplugging and enjoying nature and the beautiful springtime weather. Or, you can improvise with an indoor “route” that keeps you moving for a half hour. It’s so simple: just put one foot in front of the other!
The Woodlands Hills plans for nine-and-a-half miles of nature trails and bike lanes along the major connector roads. Recreational activity will also be in abundance with 20 neighborhood parks along with a 17-acre Village Park, 112 acres of open space and an amenity center with event space and a fitness facility.
