Set within a wooded creek corridor will be another outdoor amenity for the residents of The Woodlands Hills. Like other amenity spaces found within The Woodlands Hills, Howard Hughes Communities masterfully planned Butterfly Landing, the tenth of 20 park spaces planned for the community. Envisioned as a colorful park space inspired by nature, it will cater to all age groups.
In a fun and engaging way, the park’s name was chosen by residents. Utilizing The Woodlands Hills Facebook page, residents chose their favorite from a list of five options that focused on a butterfly theme. In an overwhelming response, Butterfly Landing was chosen as the name for the community’s new addition.
A butterfly-shaped pavilion serves as the social heart of the park. Appearing to have landed with its wings outstretched and soaking up the sun, the butterfly pavilion provides shade for those picnicking at the park. Segments of the wings are made of a translucent material that looks like stained glass and casts colorful reflections onto the stone surface below.
Organic forms within the play surface and lush planting beds add additional color in warm tones, making the space feel welcoming as it is colorful. Embracing the natural surroundings, residents will find expressions of wings, leaves and water, as they move throughout the park.
A PARK FOR ALL AGES
Young children will find age-appropriate play areas with slides, climbing elements, and playhouses all within close view from the shaded seating area. Taller structures with climbing challenges will offer older children and tweens more dynamic play elements.
A sunken basketball court lined with trees and a low retaining wall for spectators creates a defined space for everyone to use for skill practice and friendly competition. Court lighting makes evening play possible for a pick-up game after the workday.
From the pavilion, stepped terraces and paved surfaces provide areas for community events such as fitness classes, seasonal markets, or school and HOA events.
Gently sloped walkways and ramps make the park accessible for strollers ,wheelchairs and people with limited mobility.
Forming the park’s natural backbone is the meandering creek. Combining existing trees with new canopy plantings create a woodland feel, reinforcing strong connections to nature. Walkers and joggers will enjoy overlooks along the creekside boardwalk, extending the park experience into the nature corridor that loops around the park. The future linking of the park loop with the broader trail system will further connect homes with amenities, schools, and other green spaces.
Inviting residents of all ages, Butterfly Landing will provide opportunities for gathering, active play, and connections to nature and neighbors. More than a playground, it will be a shared community hub that brings together woods, water, and space for play, creating a welcoming destination. Butterfly Landing will be located near the neighborhood of Rustica Trails and is slated for completion by the end of summer.
