Introducing Pollinator Park. The Woodlands Hills newest park will feature bright colors, shapes and many ways to engage and explore. The park will surely spark joy for you and for nature’s treasured pollinators while keeping your child as busy as a bee.

Located on the corner of Mallards Rim Drive and Silver Appleyard Pass, the 1.3-acre park will include spaces for active children ages 2 to 5 as well as 5 to 12, and meditative space for adults. The park is under construction and is estimated to be complete this summer.

Pollinators are attracted to color, and this park will have an abundance of it!  This park will surely live up to its name, as pollinators will find it easily. Drawing the attention of bees, butterflies, dragonflies and more, bright, colorful flowers planted in mass will guide you into the park space. Like a box of children’s crayons, playground apparatuses will be painted in an assortment of vibrant colors. Additional gardens throughout the space will be planted with native flowers and grasses to add to the appeal of pollinators.

Located in the center of the park will be a large pavilion with picnic tables that can be used for community gatherings or to enjoy a packed lunch after a full morning of exploration and play.

Shade awnings shaped like daisies will sit atop colorful posts, appearing to dance in the breeze, while providing shade from the overhead sun. The park will engage children in many ways as playground equipment will provide opportunities to use large and small motor skills and includes sensory pieces such as binoculars and music makers that will employ sight, sound and texture. Children will find an assortment of traditional playground equipment such as balancing beams, swings, slides and climbers, but with a modern twist. An ADA-compliant, universal carousel will allow all children to enjoy the sensation of wind in their hair as they go round and round.

Children are naturally attracted to puddles and water. At Pollinator Park, they’ll be able to create their own water fun. A dry stream bed with a sand pit will accompany a hand pump and will surely gain the attention of all!

Another new feature incorporated in Pollinator Park will be a cycle loop so small children can ride their bicycles within the park encircling the rubber fall surface on a racetrack that’s just the right size for them.

The far end of the park will feature a labyrinth circle, or geometric path, where residents can find peaceful moments for quiet rumination as they walk. In existence for thousands of years, a labyrinth offers walkers time to unwind their mind, as they traverse the circular path toward the center and back out again.

A four-foot decomposed granite trail approximately 600 feet long will encircle the park. It will meander through a preserved wooded area, offering residents another walking trail beneath the canopy of trees.

Keep an eye out for the winged insects – the keystone of sustainability – when visiting Pollinator Park. Giving additional access into the world of pollinators will be stepping stones that will pass though colorful plantings, giving young entomologists an up-close lesson on insect behavior.
