A colorful new park recently opened in The Woodlands Hills offering an abundance of opportunity for active, imaginative play while stimulating the senses. Inspired by pollinators and their habitat, Pollinator Park features images of the park’s mascot, Willow the Bee. Featuring native plant beds and fun play equipment, It will surely be buzzing with activity!

Located near Silver Mist Point, the 1.3-acre park is a vibrant expression of the life of a bumble bee. Pollinator Park includes numerous details that connect the design to its nature-inspired story.

A honeycomb-inspired awning covers the pavilion, allowing sunlight to filter through, creating patterns on the surface below and offering picnic-goers a shaded area for lunch or playtime snack.

A 4-foot-wide decomposed granite trail, approximately 600 feet long winds around the park and through the preserved wooded area nearby, offering a connection to nature during a morning stroll. Wildflower areas along the park perimeter act as a beacon for a team of pollinators including bees, butterflies, birds, and beetles while also adding seasonal color. Children will delight in observing the flying visitors’ behavior up close, using the steppingstones that pass through the planting beds.

An abundance of color comes from the park apparatuses, creating an inviting space that children will find attractive. Designed around a flower and bee theme, the playground includes spaces for active play for children ages 2 to 5  and 5 to 12, with logs, stumps and branches to encourage climbing, balancing and imaginative explorations. A dry stream bed, hand pump and sand play area demonstrate how water, soil and flowers work together while providing an opportunity for creative hands-on play. Sensory pieces that employ sight, sound and texture are included, as well as an ADA-compliant carousel for all children to spin round and round together.

A bike loop gives young riders a place to practice on a rubberized surface, while the park’s labyrinth offers a quieter path for reflection. Together, these features make Pollinator Park a place where families can play, explore and enjoy the outdoors at their own pace.

Pollinator Park is one of 20 parks planned for The Woodlands Hills. It’s a colorful example of how Howard Hughes Communities blends nature with development for healthy and active lifestyles, to be enjoyed for generations to come.
