Peacock Park Named in Honor of Longtime Willis High School Coach and Educator

The Howard Hughes Corporation held a commemoration and ribbon-cutting of the newest park in the neighborhood of Maybella Forest in The Woodlands Hills on Tuesday, December 7. The park has been named “Coach Les Peacock Park” in memory of the late Les Peacock who was a longtime coach and educator at Willis ISD.

Spanning nearly one acre, Peacock Park is located at 515 Maybella Forest Drive and represents the newest of the 20 planned neighborhood parks that help keep an appreciation for nature at the forefront of the 2,000-acre forested master planned community, located 13 miles north of The Woodlands® in Conroe and Willis.

Attending the ribbon cutting dedication and breakfast in The Woodlands Hills were Les’ wife Gigi Peacock, children Kaitlyn Waddell and Logan Peacock, and other family members along with representatives of Willis ISD and The Howard Hughes Corporation.

The naming rights were donated by The Howard Hughes Corporation to Willis ISD, which chose to name the park in memory of Peacock. “Our family is forever grateful and humbled by this gracious gift honoring our beloved Coach and Pops from the Willis ISD Education Foundation, The Woodlands Hills community and The Howard Hughes Corporation,” said Gigi Peacock. “It is our prayer that those that Les impacted will be able to come to this place and remember the love and lessons that he taught us all.”

The wooded park has been built out to realize a child’s ideal vision of a backyard fort, complete with climbing features and elevated play structures integrated among the trees to set the stage for imaginative play.

“We are excited to reinforce our commitment to health and wellness and our connection to nature with the addition of Coach Les Peacock Park in the neighborhood of Maybella Forest in The Woodlands Hills,” said Heath Melton, a Regional President for The Howard Hughes Corporation. “We are proud to dedicate the park to the memory of Les Peacock, who was so highly regarded by the students and educators at Willis Independent School District. We know that children will enjoy playing here while cherishing his memory and legacy.”

Surrounded by a forest of towering pine trees and an abundance of nature, The Woodlands Hills offers unlimited access to health and wellness-inspired amenities and will eventually feature approximately 112 acres of open space. The award-winning 17-acre Founders Park is highlighted by an Activity Center with indoor and outdoor space, a state-of-the-art fitness center and yoga and events lawns. Founders Park features leisure and fitness pools, a lazy river, diving tower, sprayground, and an innovative playground. A pedestrian bridge over the natural stream connects the dog park and tennis courts to the Activity Center. Nature trails connect to the parks and are spread throughout the gently rolling terrain of the community. In addition, The Woodlands Hills is the first master planned community in Montgomery County to feature dedicated bike lanes on major connectors throughout the community.
